The Team
Ross Manuel
Host, Writer, Editor, Audio Engineer, Producer
Ross has always been more interested in people than history books. Not the dates, not the battles — the human beings. Why did they go? What did the experience do to them? And what happened when they finally came home?
The podcast began almost by accident during the COVID-19 pandemic — a quiet moment that turned into something he couldn't stop. What started as ten stories has become a body of work that's been growing ever since.
I Was Only Doing My Job is built on a simple idea: that Australia's military history is best understood through the people who lived it, not the maps and timelines. That idea has since grown into DocNetwork Productions — a network dedicated to exactly that.
When he's not recording, he's writing, researching, or chasing down some detail about a soldier most Australians have never heard of. He's currently completing a Bachelor of Historical Inquiry in Practice — which, if you've listened to the show, will come as absolutely no surprise.
Podcast Guests
Over the years a number of guests have joined Ross on the microphone to share their knowledge and passion for history.
